...When we with many difficulties organized the EUROCLIO Annual Conference in Prague in 2002, we have hoped that our situation will be better in the future. The opposite is the reality. Teachers' school duties are growing, but the financial support either from the Ministry or from other sponsors and foundations does not exist for ASUD since 2003. Every year we have problems with the participation in Euroclio Conferences, even though Euroclio or Koerber helped us several times, so  that finally our delegates could take part in it. Our ASUD member for foreign affairs could not  ask for a grant on terms of Socrates.

Now, after 16 years, we will not be able to be represented by our delegate in the General Assembly for the first time. I am very sad and very disappointed. We work hard in the association for two decades and for free and under these conditions always have to beg for financial support for the important European event.  I consider that undignified.

I fear that in near future we will have to break our activities as the Slovak SAUD did because of the great problems. I think our Polish colleagues have similar problems. We have tried to overcome difficulties and  get over it many years, because we are glad when our members take part in our activities, thanks to our board for it. We have had some success and public prestige. But there are some limits to our spiritual and time energies and we are nearing exhaustion. I think the members of the Secretariat, of the board and you could hardly imagine the conditions of our work in this time.

~ From the letter from Helena Mandelova to EUROCLIO,

Czech Association of History Teachers (ASUD).

" I have to talk to my principal at first, but then I will need more information. And, of course, it depends on whether my school agrees that I look for some person who can replace me for some time."

 ~ Dzintra Liepina, Estonia.

From the EUROCLIO survey on in-service training:

‘Is it easy for you to get time off from work to attend teacher training/professional development courses?’

A teacher from Germany wrote: ‘For me as a teachers trainer it is OK – but not for “normal" teachers!
