EUROCLIO Teacher Leave Campaign

Lifelong learning is the slogan du jour in the European Union. It is emphasized in the European Year of Innovation and Creativity, in the Lisbon Treaty, in the European Presidency Programme, and other key documents. Yet its implementation does not trickle down to many of those who are to deliver the teaching to the learners.

In order to make lifelong learning an everyday part of teachers' professional lives, it is necessary to:

•  raise awareness of the teacher leave issue on European level;
  • get the issue on the agenda of the European Parliament;
  • cooperate with the key European stakeholders in education on finding solutions and researching the situation of participation inlifelong learning among the teachers of Europe;
• raise the awareness on the national level;
• equalize access to professional development opportunities across EU countries;
• increase access to information about educational opportunities.
